and currently based in Ridgewood, Queens, NYC

Inspired by the sensualities and non-linear timelines of nature, my paintings are bold and powerful color showcases in acrylic and oil images. Each created from collages of lush landscapes and surreal worlds all cradling sensual, femme figures. Nodding to romantic masters by studying their lyrical compositions, the whimsy of the rococo period’s ornate aesthetics and celebration of nature's chaos, and impressionist tendencies toward sensitivity in application and reverence of the quiet moments— I reimagine timeless narratives using the nuances of my personal experiences. They take on contemporary hues, intertwining references to bathers, Venus, and pop culture icons. Central to my practice is the figure, meticulously woven from depictions of other women with my own. I engage in self-portraiture, dialoguing with the self as both artist and muse. This amalgamation explores the enmeshment and dissonance between the technological, modern body, the forces of nature, and life's cyclical systems. Collage enables me to assemble dynamic and harmonious forms that join and melt figures,  repurposed from fashion magazines and art history, to serve as mirrors ---reflecting our value and identity in a society where we often conform to predetermined ideals with the images we are fed. These collaged, mask-like faces haunt voluptuous bodies that float through water-like abstractions, revealing the layered materiality of paint and blurring the line and exploring the nuanced space between reality and fantasy. My artistic practice is an intimate exploration of contemporary existence, where time and personal sovereignty exist in both accessible and elusive realms.

My artistic process begins with sharpie drawings and watery washes to find and form an image. It extends beyond the canvas into the realm of technology, employing cameras, printers, scanners, and digital drawings/ collage that are then translated onto canvas that is cut sewn and glued with an industrial sewing machine to create unmistakably unique textural experiences. Touch, feeling, sensuality--- each a way to grasp the fleeting moment.  My work transcends convention, breaking molds and dissolving the past to build something new.

Themes of water, nature's magic, and loyalty intermingle with lessons learned and embodied by tattoos, composted paintings that return again in the form of a blossoming flower, and the dichotomies of man-made versus nature, real versus fake, and hers versus mine. In our plastic era of convenience, these themes invite contemplation of the balance between control and chaos, authenticity and societal expectations. Healing, cleansing, renewing.

The paintings serve as a powerful conduit for her spiritual insights and personal growth. Her canvases breathe them. Through a blend of vivid colors, intricate symbolism, and ethereal strokes, she invites viewers to embark on an introspective journey, connecting with their innermost emotions and aspirations. With a soul-driven passion for self-expression and intuitive exploration, Alexis seeks to inspire others to embrace their innate artistic potential and reclaim their intuitive sovereignty.

Alexis received a BFA in painting from Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, IN

and an MFA in painting from The New York Studio School in Manhattan.
