Meet Alexis Nunnelly

Alexis Nunnelly is a Philadelphia-based visual artist, portraitist, and creative director with over a decade of experience translating human presence into enduring works of art. Holding both a BFA and MFA in painting, her background bridges academic mastery with an unmistakable rawness that has become her signature. Her practice is rooted in intimacy, symbolism, and ritual—drawing from mythology, movement, and personal narrative to create one-of-a-kind portrait experiences.

Nunnelly’s sessions are immersive, sensual, and highly personalized. She has painted dancers mid-motion, lovers in embrace, friends sharing wine and silence. Her brush captures not just the body, but the myth unfolding inside it. Working in oil, mixed media, and live observational sketch, she creates expressive relics that are at once contemporary and timeless—anchored in feeling, fire, and full-bodied presence.

How the Ritual Works

1. Inquire with your Vision
Your journey begins with an inquiry form—HERE , where you’ll share the vision, energy, or curiosity you want immortalized. Some clients arrive with a precise moodboard. Others bring only a desire to be captured in their truest form. Either way, you’re not purchasing a product. You’re commissioning a living artwork.

2. The Collector’s Consultation
After your submission is reviewed and accepted, we’ll schedule a private 30-minute consultation. This is where your concept is refined, desires clarified, and the initial creative direction takes shape. Upon acceptance, a 50% non-refundable deposit secures your session and covers all canvas, materials, and studio preparation. This is where we begin the ritual.

3. Enter the Studio
On the day of your session, you’ll step into my Philadelphia atelier——a private, light-soaked space designed for intimacy, intention, and imagination. Champagne may be chilling. Music is curated to your taste. Whether you arrive solo, with a muse, or as a pair—this is your time to be fully seen. You may choose to pose in couture, in character, or simply as you are.

4. The Warm-Up
We’ll begin with conversation, light sketching, and subtle choreography to find the composition, then begin painting live in layers of color and form. Whatever allows you to feel most like yourself—or someone new. No pressure. Just permission. The atmosphere is expressive, relaxed, and intimate—tailored to your comfort. I guide the composition with gentle direction and aesthetic instinct until the visual language reveals itself.

5. The Painting Begins
When the composition clicks, the ritual deepens. You’re no longer a sitter—you’re a mirror, a muse, a myth being born. For 4+ hours, I paint you in real time—translating your presence into gesture, atmosphere, and myth. My style moves between abstraction and detail, guided by our chemistry and the mood of the day. It is a co-creation, but you are always the masterpiece.

6. The Release
Once the work is complete and dry, we arrange in-person delivery or insured shipping. Your final payment (50%) is due at this time. You’ll receive:
• Your original portrait, varnished and ready for framing
• A signed certificate of authenticity
• A collector’s folio of sketches, studies, and studio notes from your sitting

***Each piece is documented in my private archive, and your portrait will never be reproduced or offered as a print. This is a one-of-one, made only once, for you.

What you deserve to know before becoming art.

  • Your session includes 3–4 hours in my Philadelphia studio ( unless booking a destination session) where we co-create a custom fine art painting of you (or you and a loved one). This includes a 30-minute phone or Zoom consult prior to your session to connect, refine your vision, and feel into the energy we’re working with. The sitting is sensual, expressive, and completely unique to you. It is not a photoshoot—it’s a ritual.

  • That’s completely welcome. The ritual is intuitive, unfolding in the moment. Some clients arrive with detailed visions, others just bring themselves. My gift is translating your energy into form—whether that’s you lounging in your favorite robe or in an ecstatic pose mid-conversation.

  • Yes. Duo or group sittings are available. Please indicate this in the inquiry form so pricing and timing can be adjusted accordingly.

  • Absolutely. Custom sizing, collage additions, or highly layered works require a minimum of 2 weeks' notice and may affect pricing and completion time. We’ll discuss all logistics on our consult call.

  • Life happens. If you need to reschedule, your deposit will be applied to your future appointment. I ask for at least 72 hours' notice when possible.

  • Shipping is not included. If you're local to Philadelphia or NYC, pickup or delivery can be arranged. Otherwise, shipping will be calculated after your piece is complete.

  • Yes—and I highly recommend it.
    Upgrade to The Mythic Archive for an additional $888, which includes:

    • Film portraits (shot on 35mm or digital)

    This add-on turns your session into a full-body memory—art you hang, and art you keep living inside.

  • Timing varies based on scale and dryness of materials, but typically 3–6 weeks. For custom sizes or more complex works, I’ll provide a timeline on our consult call.

  • Remote commissions are available. You’ll submit a reference photo and we’ll have a brief call to discuss the tone and desired outcome. This process still requires a 50% deposit up front, and balance before delivery.
